What is the difference between fsx and fs9

Nothing runs as smooth and as easy as FS9. Along with EVO textures, fs9 has never looked better. Yes, it might look as good as FS9 ever did, but that does not mean it is up to scratch to a 'modern' simulator. There can be many arguments to keep on using FS9, but looks are not one of those. See this image, this is how FSX looked a few years ago.

I don't recommend PC World for any Fightsim machine - they will sell all sorts of rubbish just to increase their sales. I did change to FSX two years ago and never regretted it, despite having to update my machine royally i.

Still it remains a bit annoying that you really have to dive into techinical issues if you like to increase FSX realism without spending hundreds on add-ons, and that you always have to fight for every single frame of better performance.

As a result I'm seriously contemplating already to purchase Prepar 3D soon. Maybe you already saw some videos, but looking at these you might feel encouraged to skip FSX:. Please note that the makers of these videos still use fast computers, and surely P3D will as well have some drawbacks. But considering the investment I guess it would be a much more future-oriented decision which you might otherwise consider in 2 years just like me.

I remember when I was still running FS9 many years ago. What a difference! Since then I've never used FS9 again. I should never buy a complete pc at a store but made one myself with A-components or ask a good friend with more knowledge to do it. And why invest again in an old platform like FSX? The graphics with Dx11 are much better and you get less oom errors by better memory management. Please buy a PC with an Nvidia graphiccard. Most of the flightsims run better on Nvidia then ATI.

I may be missing something but as I understand it, the video card has little of no relevance as to how well FSX runs.

You can read in several fora that a program like Nvidia inspector is a great advantage for tweaking your graphics card. Thanks to Nvidia inspector it is possible to tweak this out. But upgrading to FSX" Hmmm good reason? Fs9 has got much better frames. FSX doesn't. Fsx claims support dx10 but it's not in real. Even with dx10 scenery fix. And i can easily make changes in cfg files especially aircraft. By not making a scenery for fs9. And the scenery makers don't make a new game, don't make a new game engine they only making a scenery for existing simulation.

And i think scenery makers shouldn't force simmers to buy a new simulation except they don't work for Microsoft, Lockhead etc. But unfortunetly they act like they do. Oh and don't tell me its my PC, this thing can churn out far newer games with far, far better graphics that were launched less than a month ago and still perform admirably. I am looking forward to seeing how Flight will be, I suppose time will tell. Hi,Ground Environment Pro for ground textures. Mesh and Landclass from FS Genesis.

REX for environmental textures. Active Sky Evolution for weather. The Ultimate Terrain series for road, water and scenery placements. Radar Contact for ATC. Plenty of planes and scenery both free and pay out there. Roy,I am out of my studio and it's been hectic the past couple of days. I will look when I get in this evening and give you the link you need. I found this in the FSX forum. If you can't wait until later, you could try a search for "alternative frame rate limiter".

Talk to you then. This topic sure gets beat to death. I owned FSX at one time, but stopped playing the tweaking game when I realized that it was pointless on my system, and I was spending more time tweaking than flying. Until I can afford a major all around upgrade, im best served by FS9. But to those of you who can play it and enjoy it, awesome.

I wish i could, but I cant tweak it to get out of it what I can get from FS9. What I dont get is why the 'choice' seems to bug some people. If development stopped for FS9 today, I would be content with what is available, and would likely never get to try it all.

By most games standards, FS should have died a long time ago. But it is a fantastic PC game, and will likely live on for years to come. Way too much free stuff available to not make it a worthwhile purchase. Then add in the payware, FS9 is a monster. FSX will always suffer for its being such a resource hog. Also, if these new sims take off pun intended , a lot of developers may make the move over to them, and that could lead to FSX not having near the amount of stuff available, free or payware.

Recommended Posts. Guest HiiFlyer. Posted March 2, If I stop the program, this stuttering stops as well. So, I really doubt that it is the reading of the data which is responsible, but whatever your program is doing with it. Run the test with your program only reading it and not displaying it.

I forgot to mension that my application runs from a different computer via WideFS, so the application in itself doesn't steal any performance from FSX. I have done some tests, and it seems like the part of the application that writes to the green text-strip in FSX is the part that makes FS to stutter. I'm writing the aircrafts speed and altitide to this text-strip every second, which is the same "frequency" as the lagging. Yes, I get that on my main flight PC, the one where I have the latest video drivers and nVidia Inspector set to give me the best display -- plus the external FPS limiter.

Horrible, isn't it? And it doesn't happen on two other systems i run including my test and development PC. I'm pretty sure it must be related to video settings somehow. I have a large collection of aircraft in my Boxed version so I simply copied the ones I wanted and pasted them into the Steam edition and they worked exactly the same. Fix your quotes above, you have them backwards. I am the one that said you had a problem. Last edited by yellowjacket ; 27 Mar, am. I have no idea.

I had uninstalled it do to some problem causing it not to load. The logs, added aircraft and Saved Flights were still on my hard drive. FX10 Uninstall does not erase them and shouldn't. I ran FX10SE several times and each time it went through loading the install and other files. It didn't actually try and reinstall the whole program but I had to click each window before it would eventually start the actual program.

I noticed then that the log book and my saved files were from my boxed version. Mind you, the box version wasn't even installed at this point.
